About Us

Over a decade of home repair and maintenance service in Pittsburgh, PA.

Our Story

Perry North Handyman was founded in 2012 by Sam Harrison with a simple business model: show up on time, do the work right, and charge a fair price. At the time, Sam had already spent years working in home repair and maintenance across the Pittsburgh area, accumulating hands-on experience in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general repairs. He knew the work. What he saw a gap in was consistency — the kind of local handyman service that homeowners could actually count on, not just hope for.

Starting in the Perry North neighborhood, the business grew steadily through word of mouth. No elaborate marketing. Just reliable work and satisfied customers telling their neighbors. Over the years, that straightforward approach built a customer base that spans the North Side and extends throughout Allegheny County — homeowners who've used Perry North Handyman once, were satisfied, and came back the next time something needed attention.

More than twelve years later, the business still operates on the same principles that started it. The scope of services has expanded to match what Pittsburgh homeowners actually need, the tools and techniques have evolved, but the core standard — reliable, quality work at a fair price — hasn't changed.

Sam Harrison grew up in the Pittsburgh area and has called Perry North home for most of his life. He knows the neighborhoods, the people, and the kind of older homes that are common throughout the North Side — the quirks of century-old plaster walls, the plumbing configurations typical to Pittsburgh's brick rowhouses, the way older window frames behave through freeze-thaw cycles, and the carpentry profiles that match existing trim in pre-war homes.

Sam spent years working in home repair and maintenance before starting Perry North Handyman, picking up experience across a wide range of trades. That hands-on background — not a formal certification program, but actual years of working on Pittsburgh homes — gives him the diagnostic sense to identify problems correctly and the skills to address them properly.

He started Perry North Handyman to offer reliable, honest work to homeowners who needed someone they could actually trust to show up and get the job done right. That goal has driven every decision about how the business operates — from how quickly calls are returned to how jobs are priced to what quality standard is acceptable before work is considered complete.

Outside of work, Sam stays involved in the Perry North community by supporting local events and getting to know his neighbors. He believes that a good handyman should be someone the community can count on — not just for repairs, but as a familiar and trustworthy presence in the neighborhood. When customers hire Perry North Handyman, they're hiring someone who cares about the outcome because they live right alongside the people they're working for.

How We Work

The operating principles that guide every Perry North Handyman job — from first contact to final cleanup.

Do the Job Right the First Time

Shortcuts cost homeowners more in the long run. Perry North Handyman takes the time to assess each job properly and use the correct approach — even when a quicker fix might be easier in the moment.

Respect the Customer's Time

Showing up when promised, responding to messages the same day, and completing work within the quoted timeframe. We treat our customers' schedules as seriously as our own.

Serve the Community

Perry North Handyman is a genuinely local business. We live and work in the same neighborhoods we serve, and that community connection directly influences how we approach every job.

Honest Assessments

If a job doesn't need the most expensive solution, we'll say so. If a problem is beyond our scope, we'll tell you clearly and point you toward the right resource. Integrity over upselling.

Service Area — Pittsburgh's North Side and Beyond

Perry North Handyman is based in the Perry North neighborhood of Pittsburgh and primarily serves the surrounding North Side communities — Perry South, Brighton Heights, Marshall-Shadeland, California-Kirkbride, Fineview, Troy Hill, and Reserve Township among them.

Service extends to adjacent communities including Ben Avon, Emsworth, Millvale, Sharpsburg, and other Allegheny County neighborhoods within reasonable distance. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, contact us and we'll let you know quickly.

Pittsburgh's North Side includes some of the city's oldest and most architecturally varied residential housing. Perry North Handyman's familiarity with these neighborhoods and their specific housing stock — much of it built between 1880 and 1950 — gives us an advantage in diagnosing and properly repairing the kinds of issues common in older homes: settling-related cracks, outdated materials, non-standard dimensions, and deferred maintenance that's accumulated over decades.

We are a local business serving local people, and that's reflected in how we operate, how we respond, and the care we bring to every job.
